AMRAAM- start to finish.
While we were on our vacation this spring, I took AMRAAM along as well as some paint and other things so I could finish it up, hopefully in time for LDRS, which we were attending the last day of our vacation. In the pic on the right it is getting its final blue stripes, and you can see our campsite some in the background. It flew at LDRS on a G33 for its maiden flight; it was my first re-load and my first composite motor. It was a perfect flight, to around 1200ft, and a great recovery. I guess I’m now fully into Mid Power Rocketry! The second time I tried to launch it the F50 I had in it CATO'ed, I knew I would have a CATO sooner or later, but on my second composite motor... !!!
Thanks goes out to everyone who helped me get this thing flying in their own ways, but especially to Neil for helping me at LDRS!
Cadet- my Civil Air Patrol Rocket!
11/12/04Well, on 7/11/04 I flew it, with our squadron, on a G64-7! It was a great flight, cept the recovery... well, the 'cute and all was fine, but it landed in a tree! Way out of reach, and I really doubt its coming down:( RIP.

????Well, I've been working on this one for a while now, but its almost done! I'm naming it Cadet, and will paint it camo as best I can. It is suposed to resemble a Civil Air Patrol Cadet, and will have black fins and an oarnge 'hat' with 805 on it in black letters. It will also be my first scratch mid power rocket, its 2" dia and 5.5' long with a 29mm mmt. I hope to launch it with our squadron this fall, if i can get a G64 i'd love it b/c that would really 'wow' these people who have never seen anything cept a BP launch!

My own NC!
For Cadet i need a nose cone (NC) to fit the tubes i was using (we found the somewhere... thats the BEST way to get rockets parts!), so using some ideas i read about on TRF i tried to turn my own NC out of that blue isulating foamthat almost anyone can get from anywhere for free, or really cheap from a hardwear store. the result was less than perfect so far as the foam was concerned, and i also wanted it a little bit stronger. The abviouse respose would have been to fiberglass it, right? well, with not epoxy resing and no FG cloth around (i was also broke;)) i decided to do a cheap dirty job; this aint gona bust mach anyway, is it?
So what did i do? i 'glassed' it with pantyhose nylon and yellow carperters glue. Yep, laugh all ya want, but it was practicly free, strong enough for a 2" NC, and made a much better finishing surface. i'm happy, and will do it again in a second, if i don't have the materials around to do a better job!
"Howlin Sam"- my moded Fat Boy
11/12/04 I guess I should note that my dad and I DID get it back! It hasn't flown again yet, but i'm sure glad it's back.8-24-04 It flew yeasterday, on a C6-5 and two A10Ps. It was slightly unstable on the way up, doing a few (2-3) cork screws, but it didn't go that bad, I think the rod had a little wip in it and it sent it off to the side. The delay was also to long, as it fell at least 100ft before the 'cute deployed... when the 'cute deployed, though, everything looked great... right up to the point where it landed in a tree in someones back yard:-( :-( It landed in the same guys back yard taht Match did! My dad and I are going to get a ladder and try to get it down, as it is aprox 20ft off of the ground. My new relay 12volt launch controler I made worked well though... fired all three ignitors no prob!

Well, while in SanDiego visiting my aunt Sally and Matt this spring i picked this up at a hobby shop there, and started building it there. Of course I couldn't build it stock, so I added two 13mm outboards (as seen in the picture). It's painted now, but I ran out of the right color paint before i had all of the blemishes out so I don't want to aply decals yet... I may fly it the way it is soon though, because i just can't wait :).

"Bankola"
11/12/04 Its all finished now, but I havn't flown it yet. I beveled the leading and trailing edges of the fins so it should spin, and spin perty fast at that :)

????I don't have a pic of this rocket as of now, but (as the name suggests) i'm turning one of those 3" crayon banks into a rocket. It will have a 29mm main motor tube, but I have already constructed a 29-24mm adapter so i can fly it on smaller engines too. it will be pretty light, so i don't know if it will ever see a "G" engine, but it might, who knows!

my tube fined rocket.
11/12/04 They same day that I flew Cadet for its maiden flight I also flew Psychadelic, on an F21-8. It screamed! nice high flight, little late ejection but not too bad. streamer recovered way down field.

????Another one with not picture yet, but this is going to be a tube fined rocket. it has 6 tubes clustered around a main 1.5" or so tube. it has one 24mm mount in the main tube, but two of the tube fins are 29mm tubes... *evil grin*. They will, probobly, never se anything in them, but once again who knows?

Big Bry
This rocket has been on my work list for more than a year now... when i first started building it.. well... i didn't know everything i do now. Now, i realize, this thing will not get off the ground on any motor that will not crush it, so it is probably going to hafta get lopped shorter. I still have hope for it to fly though, never worry!
